CROWN POINT, Ind. — Amazon has leased a 1.2 million-square-foot fulfillment center in Crown Point’s Venture Park 65 and plans 500 full-time jobs at the I-65 corridor site, Inside INdiana Business reported Sept. 18 from a company announcement.

The retailer did not disclose the dollar size of the investment. It said the building will sit where Interstate 65 meets the U.S. 30 / regional highway network and will feed large-format products into Amazon’s Midwest network.

What the building does

Amazon described the Crown Point site as an upstream inventory hub. Vendors and manufacturers ship oversized products there first. Downstream fulfillment centers then pick and pack customer orders. InkFree News, working from the same announcement window, said the building is meant to move oversized products more efficiently across the Midwest.

That is a different jobs peg from Amazon’s Hobart / Jasper County data-center track and from the NIPSCO GenCo power stories already on the Region N3 wire. This is warehouse and logistics payroll on the I-65 spine — the same corridor Mayor Pete Land called out as the draw.

“This selected site is located directly along the I-65 corridor, which is a prime location for this business development,” Land said in the release. “The 500 jobs created by this landmark development will help provide a great opportunity for not only the residents of our community, but the entirety of Northwest Indiana.”

Pay, benefits, and the hiring clock

Amazon told Inside INdiana Business that Indiana operations employees can earn an average hourly base wage of nearly $24, with medical, dental, and vision coverage starting on day one for full-time roles. Spokesperson Andre Woodson said in an email to the outlet that Crown Point operations are expected in 2027, with hiring typically starting one to two months before open.

Amazon said it already runs 17 fulfillment and sortation centers, 11 delivery stations, data centers, Whole Foods stores, and wind and solar projects in Indiana. The Crown Point lease adds another Lake County door for workers who want warehouse shifts without waiting on a mill hiring pool.

The Times of Northwest Indiana has previously covered Venture Park 65 infrastructure and TIF work around the park; at draft there was no matching Times package on the September Amazon lease announcement. Region News Source had no matching package at draft.

Region N3 will update when Amazon posts Crown Point job listings or when the city publishes a construction or tax-abatement calendar for the pad.
