MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. — City Hall is putting money behind one last Farmed & Forged market day of the year.
Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch and the City of Michigan City will match Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) dollars and cover vendor fees at the Farmed & Forged Pop-Up Market: Fall Fest, according to a city release carried Oct. 14 by WIMS Radio and Oct. 13 by GreatNews.Life.

What the city is funding
The Fall Fest returns to the market’s regular Washington Street corner. The city framed the help as a repeat of support offered at the market’s final regular-season date in September.
“We know families are trying to make every dollar count, and we know our local farmers and small-business owners are working just as hard to make ends meet,” Nelson Deuitch said in the city release. “That’s why we’re stepping up on both sides. Matching SNAP dollars helps put more fresh, healthy food on our neighbors’ tables, while covering vendor fees means our farmers and entrepreneurs can take home more of what they’ve earned.”
The city release does not restate a dollar-for-dollar multiplier. Farmed & Forged’s Michigan City market page still advertises a Storm Relief “Quadruple SNAP Match,” saying a $20 EBT swipe can yield $80 in market vouchers for eligible food. Shoppers should confirm the day’s match at the info booth.
Fall Fest extras
Organizers list Halloween-leaning activities alongside produce and makers:
- Costumes encouraged for all ages
- Trick-or-treat trail and scavenger hunts for kids
- “Boo Box” giveaway stocked by vendors
- Live music
- Pumpkin decorating (Dunebrook booth; pumpkins donated by Burek Farms, per the market site)
The pop-up is billed as the last Farmed & Forged Michigan City shopping day before a planned May 2027 return.

Context
Farmed & Forged ran an expanded storm-recovery SNAP match during Farmed to Fork Weekend in mid-September. This Fall Fest package is a separate one-day pop-up with fresh City Hall backing for both shoppers and vendors.
Residents can follow updates on the Farmed & Forged Michigan City Farmers Market Facebook page, the city release said.
